CEO Summit for jewelry designers set for March

Pelham, N.Y.–The Jewelers Resource Bureau (JRB) is inviting jewelry designers to attend the Designer CEO Summit, a designer-geared event intended to inspire creative-minded artisans to develop effective business strategies for running their own companies.

The event is scheduled t take place Sunday, March 14, at the Katie Murphy Amphitheatre at New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology, and will feature nine hours of education, insight and peer interaction.

According to JRB President Cindy Edelstein, the event is called the “Designer CEO Summit” because the organizers want designers to think like top executives, and the organizers have assembled a roster of business leaders who know exactly how to get designers to the next level in their businesses.

Designers attending will have a chance to learn about CEO-level strategic thinking from Andrea Hill, former CEO of industry supplier Rio Grande and owner of HMC Group. Hill will discuss topics such as determining cash requirements, understanding and using ratios to make better plans, and how to stay focused on good decisions, among much more.

Later that morning, Meeling Wong, a veteran of thriving designer brands such as David Yurman, John Hardy, Diamond in the Rough and Coomi, will speak on how brands such as these run and what makes them successful. Wong will start off by differentiating a “business” from a “brand,” and will later move on to brand positioning, communications, pricing merchandising and more.

Attendees will also get a chance to hear from Lisa Jenks, a designer trailblazer who rose to fame for her jewelry before moving into licensed products with flatware, barware, leather goods and more; as well as from Kate Peterson, a noted retail strategist who will teach attendees how to “Get Into the Mind of Your Customer: How Retailers Think, Buy, and Sell Your Work and How You Can Influence It All.”

Making it a day full of learning, the conference will feature educational opportunities during lunch, too, with “75 Ideas in 75 Minutes,” a lunch event featuring a panel of experts who will discuss salesmanship, merchandising, celebrity public relations and social marketing, among other topics.

If attendees are eager to make it a full weekend of learning, they will have a chance to do so through a Jewelers Resource Bureau’s pre-summit workshop and post-summit workshop. On Saturday, March 13, a limited audience will have the opportunity to attend two workshops, one on do-it-yourself public relations, and the second on sales planning and trunk shows. On Monday, March 15, the professionals of the Jewelry Information Center will offer media training and a chance to showcase each Jewelers of America member designer’s jewelry at an afternoon of editor’s appointments.
