A gang of ten raiders broke into an exclusive shopping center in London and stole an estimated £1 million worth of jewelry from a De Beers Diamond Jewellers store and a Tiffany & Co. store.
The theft took place in the early morning hours of Wednesday at the Westfield centre in West London, Europe’s biggest shopping center.
De Beers Diamond Jewellers CEO François Delage confirmed that a break-in occurred, and did not miss the opportunity to promote diamonds. “This is an unfortunate incident, but is yet another reminder of the timeless allure of diamonds,” he said in a release.
The raiders smashed the windows of the jewelry stores and grabbed handfuls of items before escaping. The theft took just minutes and the mask wearing thieves left in a number of stolen cars, according to a Times Online report.
Delage said they are working closely with the Metropolitan Police “and have every confidence in the authorities’ ability to recover the stolen diamond jewelry.”
De Beers called on anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Hammersmith Police or Crimestoppers anonymously on +44 (0)800 555 111
