Chile earthquake may boost gold, metal prices

The devastating  earthquake which hit Chile in February has caused gold and other metal prices to rise, Art of Jewellery  reported.

According to the report, the London Metal Exchange saw copper prices jump  5.6%, amid concerns the quake may  disrupt supplies.

“Base metals rallied strongly due to the earthquake in Chile and this is one factor that has been pushing other commodity prices up”, said Peter Fertig, the owner of Quantitative Commodity Research in Hainburg, Germany. A strengthening euro is also supporting gold prices, he added.
